Junkies and Anything Else That Fell by the Wayside.
This summer's blockbuster story continues to be drugs, drugs, drugs as the fallout continues from the six junkies croaking it from heroin overdoses recently. According to an addictions specialist, heroin use is increasing among Hungarian youth and the number of regular users is now between 4,000 and 5,000. But it's not all heroin, there's ketamine too, yay!
• Új Generáció (New Generation), the youth organization of Liberal party SZDSZ has responded to the deaths by proposing that heroin is sold to addicts at drugstores, needle vending machines are installed and rooms under the supervisation of doctors are set up to ensure the drug is administered safely. The would like to exempt users from punishment and to go after the pushers.
• Five people aged between 19 and 36 were found lying unconscious at a disco in Kecel early Saturday morning, August 9. They had probably consumed liquid ketamine. Three of the victims were not breathing when they were discovered, but their lives were all saved.
